Steve Balsamo

Steve in the Media

Steve has done several interviews and special performances on the radio and has also appeared and performed on quite a few television shows.

We are certain that we have missed out some of them here - if you are aware of any more, please do let us know!

BBC Television:
Top of the Pops, Children in Need, Proms in the Park, Just Up Your Street

Steve has been on shows on the BBC several times in the past few years.

When the "Sugar For the Soul" single was released, Steve and his merry band of Millionaires performed it on the BBC's weekly music show, Top of the Pops. Top of the Pops generally only shows current and upcoming artists in the UK Top 40 singles chart. At one point, the BBC decided to air Top of the Pops 2, which was an opportunity for them to replay some of the favourite performances from past shows of Top of the Pops. Steve's SFTS performance was also shown on Top of the Pops 2.

Steve has also participated in the BBC's Children in Need charity show broadcast from BBC Wales, hosted by Terry Wogan. In 2003, he also performed live for the BBC Proms in the Park, which for the first time, had several cities participating. Steve performed an emotional rendition of "Gethsemane" and "Take Him Home" in front of a crowd of over 8,000 in Swansea as part of this event.

Just Up Your Street

Steve also was on the panel of judges in the BBC Wales' TV show, "Just Up Your Street", which was a talent show that concentrated on talent within Wales itself. Steve met winner Karl Morgan, who was also from Swansea, and they have recently been working together on material. Keep your eyes peeled for more information as soon as we have it on Karl Morgan and his work with Steve!

Other Television Appearances

The Pop Factory

During the time of his "All I Am" album, Steve appeared on the Welsh TV music show, "The Pop Factory". The Pop Factory was not only a TV show, but it is a former fizzy drinks factory which has been converted into a first-class media production facility in its own right in Porth, Wales.

During Steve's performance on The Pop Factory, he was also interviewed and did a demostration of Mongolian Throat Singing. For more about this fascinating technique and where to experience this for yourself, please visit the website of Jill Purce: http://www.jillpurce.com

Radio Interviews and Performances

BBC Radio 2 - Friday Night is Music Night

Not long after the World Premiere of Eric Woolfson's POE at the Abbey Road Studios, Steve made an appearance at The Mermaid Theatre in London for the broadcast of "Friday Night is Music Night" to perform selections from the musical.

Steve also was interviewed in the BBC Radio London Studios by Sadie Nine.

Sadie, who is not only a radio personality but a singer/actress in musical theatre herself, was keen to bring all the listeners up to date with what Steve had been doing since his performances in Jesus Christ Superstar and Notre Dame de Paris in the West End. Sadie seems to enjoy having Steve in as a guest, and he has made several appearances on her show since.

Steve was also interviewed briefly by Radio Wales personality Kevin Hughes during their trip to Istanbul in 2004 for the Eurovision Song Contest. Oddly enough, Steve (who is from Swansea in Wales) co-wrote the French entry (A Chaque Pas, sung by Jonatan Cerrada) with Ben Jammin' Robbins. The UK entry was sung by a friend of Steve's, James Fox, who is from Bargoed, not far from Cardiff in Wales. As part of Kevin's special show about James' Eurovsion experience, the show "Turkish Delight" also featured a brief chat with Steve.

The Storys Hit the Airwaves

Over the past few months, The Storys have been doing many radio appearances. There are quite a few of these to note - including sessions with Bob Harris and Janice Long of BBC Radio 2, a few appearances on Welsh local radio including The Wave, Swansea Sound, Radio Carmarthenshire, and GTFM to name a few. You can find more detailed information about these in the Archived Events section of our messageboard.

The Storys also performed at the 2005 BBC Children in Need show in Wrexham. Part of their performance and an interview with Steve Balsamo and Dai Smith was aired on BBC Wales television.

There are also older appearances which Steve has done over the past few years. which we are currently researching for further information. If you have any other information, please do feel free to contact us as it will be most appreciated!
